Jaw-Dropping Baseball Cakes

Class Materials +

Ganache

6 - 12oz. Bags of semi-sweet chocolate chips (I like the mini chips best as they melt better) 2 ¾ cups of heavy whipping cream Heat the heavy whipping cream until it just reaches a boil. Pour it over the chocolate chips and stir until melted and mixed well (you don’t want any lumps). Pour into an air tight container with a lid and let sit for a few hours or overnight on the counter. The ganache will be thick and firm after resting. To loosen it up before applying to the cake, heat in the microwave for one minute and stir well until it is loose enough to spread evenly.

Popcorn Box

Using your Rice Cereal Treat mixture, gather a large clump and press tightly into the shape you desire for the popcorn box. Continue pressing until you’re sure it’s packed tightly. You can use a knife to trim and square the sides if needed. Measure a plastic, hollow cake support dowel and cut to fit the exact height of the box (make sure the dowel is larger than your center support dowel you drilled into the base board so your popcorn box slides on top easily). Cut a piece of the wax covered cake board the size of your popcorn box, and cut a hole in the bottom for the dowel to go through. With buttercream or chocolate, ‘glue’ the piece to the base of the popcorn box so it will sit cleanly on top of the cake beneath. Allow your popcorn box assembly to rest overnight to set up. Cover in buttercream and follow the next steps with the video.

Baseball Hat

Just as with the popcorn box, gather your Rice Cereal into the shape of an exaggerated baseball bat (fatter than normal so it will be sturdy) and continue and pressing together until it’s tight. Carefully insert your ¼” dowel into the entire thing so there is a ½” sticking out of the bottom. The extension will be inserted into the cake base to hold it sturdy standing up. Allow your assembly to rest overnight to set up. Cover in buttercream and follow the next steps with the video.
